Do you have a structural concern about your home? Has your home inspector recommended further evaluation of a potential structural defect? Are you looking for an independent consultant to diagnose a problem, or to determine if there is even a problem? For projects like these, Clarke Engineering provides a Basic/Preliminary Structural Consultation.
This type of Structural Consultation includes a visit to the property to assess your concerns. This assessment is based on a visual inspection of the relevant and readily-accessible areas of the home. No destructive or invasive investigation takes place and no physical testing of materials is performed.
The goal of the Basic/Preliminary Structural Consultation is to provide assistance and advice regarding a structural issue and how to proceed. In some cases, the outcome will include very specific recommendations. In other cases, the recommendations will be more general in nature.
Common conditions addressed by a Basic/Preliminary Structural Consultation are:
- Cracks in walls or foundations
- Sloping or sagging floors
- Sagging rafters
- Questionable structural modifications
In most cases, the on-site consultation takes about an hour and includes a verbal explanation and recommendations.
Optionally, a written report can also be provided summarizing our on-site observations and recommendations.
Basic/Preliminary Structural Consultations are billed at a flat rate of $675 plus HST for a Consultation including a verbal report only, or $875 plus HST for a consultation including a written summary report, stamped by a Professional Engineer. Payment is required prior to us attending at the property. An additional mileage fee is applicable for travel more than 100 km round trip.
Basic/Preliminary Structural Consultations are not appropriate for all situations. Expert reports or conditions involving multiple issues or more in-depth investigation are typically charged at an hourly rate.
